This is a seasonally time-tabled, limited edition experience with very little availability. We may have more intensive blocks in the summer schedule (Jun-Aug)

Duration: 4hrs per session / 4 sessions / 16hrs total.

Outline:

Immerse yourself in the art of wheel throwing over four full days, guided by a team of two experienced tutors who each bring their own techniques and insights. This course is perfect for beginners or those with some prior experience, taking you from your very first centered cylinder to more advanced forms. You’ll develop confidence on the wheel, refine your shapes, and learn essential finishing techniques, leaving the course with a small collection of beautiful, functional ceramic pieces and the skills to continue your pottery journey.

*Each day includes a short 30 minute interval for lunch, coffee and a rest.

*Only firing of fully finished complete works is included.

*Glazing of finished wares will be conducted by your course tutor..

Schedule

Day 1: Introduction & Foundations (Nadia)

  • Introduction to the pottery wheel and studio tools

  • Understanding clay types and preparation

  • Centering techniques and basic wheel control

  • Making your first simple forms (cylinders and bowls)

Day 2: Building Form & Confidence (Nadia)

  • Refining centering and pulling walls

  • Creating more balanced, even forms

  • Exploring basic shaping techniques

  • Troubleshooting common throwing challenges

Day 3: Advanced Throwing Techniques (Brandon)

  • Throwing taller and wider forms

  • Using bat systems.

  • Altering forms and refining profiles

  • Introducing more complex pieces (e.g. larger bowls, vases, sets)

Day 4: Trimming & Refinement (Brandon)

  • Introduction to leather-hard clay

  • Trimming techniques to refine shape

  • Improving proportions and symmetry

  • Preparing pieces for drying and firing

  • All materials, including clay, tools, and glazes.
