    Course Schedule:

    Week 1: Reintroduction to throwing. Learn how to collar in your cylinder to create a bottleneck/vase form.

    Week 2: Trim the pieces thrown in the week prior using a chuck (a tool used to trim forms with a narrow rim).

    Week 3: Learn how to throw a closed form or a ‘yoyo jar’.

    Week 4: Trim your jars thrown in the week prior using a suction technique and experiment with using decorative slip (coloured clay) to finish your pieces.

    Week 5: Learn how to glaze your pottery wares and experiment with layering glazes and masking.

  • Join our 5-week advanced pottery wheel course for experienced potters seeking to expand their skills. Create large vessels and lidded pieces like urns or teapots. Gain insights into studio processes and clay selection. Ideal for those not yet ready to start their own studio practice.

    Take home 3-5 pieces. Each 2-hour session includes demos and personalised guidance in small groups of up to 6 people.

    Course Schedule:

    Week 1: Clay preparation & throwing session. Learn a little about preparing, reclaiming and the benefits of different clay bodies. Settle into the wheel and throw two large forms with the intention of joining them together in the week following to form a sculptural vessel such as a large vase, fruit bowl with a stand, etc.

    Week 2: Trimming and attaching forms session. Learn how to effectively attach and alter your pieces thrown in the week prior and receive an introduction to combining coiling & throwing techniques.

    Week 3: Throwing session. Learn how to form a gallery (sunken lip) and a separate lid to fit. This can take the form of a jar, pot or teapot when finalised.

    Week 4: Trimming session. Learn how to trim the pieces made in the week prior to fit together and apply handles should you wish.

    Week 5: Glazing session. Before decorating your wares, receive a quick explanation from our tutor about glaze chemistry, different glazing methods and safety precautions. Afterwards, get stuck into glazing your work.

    Join our 7-week pottery wheel course centered around clay. This course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive grasp of various clay bodies and the creative possibilities they offer.

    Our primary goals are to introduce you to the diverse choices available in clay selection and to delve into the merits, drawbacks, and techniques associated with each clay type. Throughout the course, participants will have the opportunity to work with the following materials and explore the techniques needed when working with them.

    Course Schedule:

    Week 1: Throwing/ Learn how to adapt a standard clay body with aggregates, pigment or other clay. Throw 3-4 forms with the intention to explore colour.

    Week 2: Trimming/ Trim your wares made in the weeks prior.

    Week 3: Throwing/ Learn how to throw with a groggy Black clay body. Throw 3-4 forms in which you explore texture and boundaries.

    Week 4: Trimming/ Trim your wares made in the weeks prior.

    Week 5: Throwing/ Learn how to throw with porcelain. Throw 3-4 forms with the intention of exploring throwing techniques and properties of the clay.

    Join our 7-week pottery wheel course centered around decoration. This course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive grasp of various decorative techniques available.

    In this course, we aim to provide attendees with an in-depth focus on creating and applying surface decoration to wheel thrown forms at varying stages in the drying process.

    As this course emphasises surface decoration techniques rather than throwing particular forms, participants will have the freedom to throw whatever types of forms they wish whether they be simple or complex. Keeping that in mind it will be necessary that participants have previous experience throwing and trimming pots on the wheel as demonstrations of these processes will be brief and will only be done as a review.

    Throughout the duration of this course, participants will learn a variety of surface techniques that will highlight the benefits of adding surface decoration at the plastic, leather-hard, and bonedry stages. This includes water etching, Sgraffito & Inlay, Paper Masking

    Each 2-hour session begins with a thorough demonstration by our expert instructor, followed by continuous support and guidance throughout the class. With a maximum group size of 6, you can count on personalised attention and assistance.

    All your creations will be crafted from stoneware clay and glazed with our in-house selection, ensuring they are safe for food and dishwasher use when correctly glazed by you.

    Please be aware that sessions run consecutively each week, making attendance at all 7 dates a prerequisite for booking.
