Outline:

Discover the full range of pottery techniques in this four-day combined course, with tuition from multiple skilled tutors who will guide you through each aspect of the ceramic process. Across the course, you’ll experience wheel throwing, trimming, attaching handles, surface decoration, and hand-building. Each four hour day focuses on a different skill, giving you a well-rounded understanding of pottery while encouraging creative experimentation.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a diverse collection of handmade ceramic pieces and the confidence to continue exploring your own ceramic projects

*Each day includes a short 30 minute interval for lunch, coffee and a rest.

*Only firing of fully finished complete works is included.

*Glazing of finished wares will be conducted by your course tutor.

Schedule

Day 1: Wheel Throwing (Nadia)

  • Introduction to the pottery wheel and studio tools

  • Preparing clay and centering techniques

  • Throwing basic forms such as cylinders and bowls

  • Understanding form, balance, and wheel control

Day 2: Trimming & Refinement (Brandon)

  • Introduction to leather-hard clay

  • Trimming techniques to refine thrown pieces

  • Creating foot rings and improving proportions

  • Preparing work for drying and firing

Day 3: Hand-Building Techniques (Steph)

  • Introduction to hand-building methods (pinch, coil, slab)

  • Creating a hand-built piece from start to finish

  • Understanding structure, joins, and form

Day 4: Handles & Surface Decoration (Brandon)

  • Making and attaching handles

  • Exploring surface decoration techniques (textures, carving, slip, marks)
